Into the World Cup semi-finals

3 week(s)

Real Madrid are through to the semi-finals of the Club World Cup. A magnificent first 20 minutes from our team put one foot in the quarter-finals against Borussia Dortmund at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, with goals from Gonzalo and Fran García. In added time, with the game under control, the match turned into pandemonium. Beier reduced the deficit, Mbappé scored our team's third goal with a spectacular finish and Guirassy, from the penalty spot, made it 3-2 in a move that saw Huijsen sent off. PSG await in the same venue (Wednesday 9th at  9pm).
From the start, Real Madrid looked dominant, surprising the German defence in the opening moments through the speed of Fran García. Our team's superiority was reflected after ten minutes. Arda Güler, involved in everything, delivered a measured cross from the edge of the area and Gonzalo finished first time with a strike inside the area with the inside of his right foot. The academy product player once again demonstrated his goal-scoring instinct and is now the tournament’s top scorer, tied with Di María and Leonardo. He has found the net in four of the five Club World Cup matches (Al Hilal, Salzburg and Juventus are the remaining two) and provided an assist against Pachuca.

Xabi Alonso's side were clearly the better team and only needed another ten minutes to extend their lead. The move was a delight, with our two full-backs playing starring roles. Trent provided the assist and Fran García got in behind. It was a deserved reward for the youth player, who was having a superb game. It was 2-0 after just 20 minutes and the third could have come in the 27th minute with a left-footed shot from Bellingham inside the area that missed the target by inches.

Heart-stopping final minutes
The minutes ticked by with few chances and in the 40th minute, Madrid could have scored again on the counter-attack, when Vini Jr. picked up a rebound and shot from long range with Kobel off his line. After the break, Borussia pressed higher up the pitch and in the 60th minute, they could have reduced the deficit with a shot from Beier that ended up in Courtois’s gloves. In added time, with everything under control, the game turned to pandemonium. Beier reduced the deficit in the 93rd minute, but a minute later, Mbappé grabbed our team's third with a spectacular bicycle kick after another Arda Güler assist, and Guirassy made it 3-2 from the penalty spot in a move that saw Huijsen sent off. Courtois, with a last-second save from Sabitzer, sealed our place in the semi-finals against PSG at this same stadium.
